CAMPING AT COYOTE LAKE
After the Rain
- Part 5 (of 7) -

A New Camp Site

A series of storms came through during our stay, bringing a lot of rain. After the rain we moved to a camp site closer to the lake so we could watch it fill up. This is the new camp site, looking toward the foothills to the East. This site has no water or electricity so we set up the generator (under the red canopy just behind the truck).

Another View

The new camp site again, this time looking Southwest. There is a creek just behind the trailer that is usually dry but was running pretty good after the rain.

A Pelican on the Lake

The rain increased the lake level dramatically, which attracted a bunch of new water fowl. Here's one of several pelicans that showed up. The lake water is full of mud washed down from the surrounding hills and sometimes looks brown and other times looks blue, depending on your viewing angle and reflections.

Hanging Out

Floating logs and branches provide a perfect spot to hang out.

Ducks in a Row

A row of ducks swim by, with a pelican in the background. (Actually I think these might be geese - hard to tell at this range.)

A Couple of Geese

A group of Canadian Geese were enjoying the abundant water after the rain. These two struck some impressive poses.

Taking Flight

The geese decided I was getting too close for comfort.

The Muddy Lake

In Episode 2 we took a hike to the lake and crossed a shallow stream to explore the East side. That break in the foliage on the far side of the lake is where we easily walked across the stream. Now it's far away, across the muddy waters of Coyote Lake.

The Rising Lake

In Episode 1 there is a photo of these same dead trees. When that photo was taken they were high and dry - way up out of the lake. After all that rain the lake is full enough that they are partially submerged.
